(Lucama, N.C.) July 1, 2013 -Virgina’s Nick Leitz continued his progression as a NASCAR Limited Late Model competitor with a come-from-behind eighth place finish at Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, North Carolina on Saturday.
For Nick it was one of his best performances of the season, his second behind the wheel of the No. 24. He qualified sixth fastest and was headed for the top five when a spin relegated him to the rear of the field.
“I wasn’t going to let that mistake ruin our night,” Nick said following the event. “I told myself I had to get back what we lost and we almost did that.”
Of his drive toward the front Nick said, “I was trying to be aggressive but also smart. I knew we had a car that could race in the top five but there weren’t enough laps left for us to get there so I wanted to get as much as I could. Thanks to Ed and Kelli Cox and our team for believing in me. This is something we can build on now.”
The next race for Nick will be a “first” of sorts as he will take on a new track for him – the Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C. The Southeast Limited Late Model Series race is this Wednesday, July 3rd and will feature some of the best Limited Late Model racers in the division from throughout the South.
“Our goal there is to do the best we can and finish,” Nick said. “I need to stay up on the wheel but also to drive with my head and not just my foot. I believe we will have a good car because Ed knows that track so I’m looking forward to practicing Tuesday and racing on Wednesday.”
