(Myrtle Beach, S.C. ) August 30, 2013 – Last weekend was, by the measure of everyone involved, a highly successful one for young Nick Leitz of Chesapeake, Va. The 16-year-old NASCAR Limited Late Model racer scored a fifth, seventh and tenth place finish in his three race tour of two South Carolina tracks he had never seen before.
His weekend started early, with a Thursday night visit to Myrtle Beach Speedway.
“Myrtle Beach was fun,” Nick said of his first time on the famed Southern short track. “We finished seventh but actually ran a little better than that I think. The car got tight as the race went on. For my first time there I was pretty happy that we got through the race and I learned a lot from Ed (Cox – crew chief/car owner). We decided to go race at Florence on Saturday night.”
A track much different from Myrtle Beach, Florence is more forgiving and not as daunting. Nick finished 10th in his first feature and promptly showed that he can learn quickly by rebounding for a fifth place run in the second race.
“It felt good to finish in the top five,” Nick said. “This track (Florence) is a cool place to race. Ed and Kelli really worked hard for me all weekend and I feel like I learned a ton at both tracks. I’m not sure where our next race will be yet but I will be ready to make it two top fives in a row. Thanks to my family and my sponsors for everything they do and for never giving up on me!”
